Chinese New Year 2015!

Friday, February 20th, 2015
Happy Chinese New Year 2015 - Year of the Ram/Sheep/Goat! To celebrate we have two big events this weekend: 1)On Saturday, February 21, the Heights Merchants celebrates the year of the Sheep or Goat. Spot the Lion Dancers on Hastings Street (between Gamma & Boundary) and receive a fortune cookie, a lucky red envelope, and a chance to win prizes! Join the Heights Merchants Association’s annual Lunar New Year celebration of the multiculturalism found within our community as we welcome the year of the Goat on Lunar New Year – February 19. The year of the Goat is sometimes referred to as the year of the Sheep or Ram. According to the Chinese Zodiac, people born in the year of the Goat are calm and take an intellectual approach to things. They are creative, compassionate, sensible, empathetic, tactful and prudent. Lunar New Year! 2)The 42nd Chinatown Spring Festival Parade Year of the Ram The Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival Parade will return for the 42nd year on Sunday, February 22nd, 2015. This signature event of Vancouver's Chinatown will feature lion dances, cultural dance troupes, marching bands, martial arts performances and much more. This is an annual cultural extravaganza not to be missed. The parade will begin at 11 am. The Year of the Ram in the Chinese Lunar calendar will begin on Thursday February 19 in 2015. Come see the sights and hear the sounds of the festivities! Highlights of the Parade Friends and family members are always welcome and are encouraged to participate, but come early before 11am when the streets of Chinatown will be blocked off and if you want to beat the crowds!
